Welcome to New Zealand

Off the Grid

Located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean,๐ŸŒŠ off the grid!๐Ÿ“ is New Zealand. In Contrast to most western countries rarely exercising their culture/roots and moving toward a more western way, New Zealand has always been an ideal display of culture, especially in the sports industry.๐Ÿ’ญ The indigenous people of New Zealand (Polynesians) were the first people to reach New Zealand settling there, becoming the Mฤori. The Mฤori decent from Polynesians whose ancestors emigrated from Taiwan to Malenation. So interesting right? Anyways I’ve educated enough if you want to know more, go do the research yourself,๐Ÿ˜ I’m going to gatekeep the rest now!๐Ÿ˜ˆ

The Haka “sound interesting”

Origins going back to the Mฤori culture as a ceremonial dance,๐Ÿ’ƒ it is a pre-ritual done by New Zealand prior to an international game.๐Ÿ‰ Although in popular culture the Haka is associated with male way of preparing for battles, it has always been performed by both men and women. ๐Ÿ‘ซIt is also performed to acknowledge great achievements, occasions, funerals or to welcome guests. Okay, once again I’ve educated y’all enough, go do the rest yourself.๐Ÿ˜‹

The funds? ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐ŸšซNot there! But I will be stepping there before my grave.๐Ÿ’€ You are probably thinking why New Zealand, why not Australia. Simply as I my biggest fear is snakes ๐Ÿand from what I heard they are everywhere in Australia, as well as the boxing kangaroos and human sized spiders.๐Ÿ•ท Also, because I am trying to be different so bad!!!๐Ÿ™ˆ

I have always been drawn to the New Zealand culture, especially their way of support during rugby games, the presentation of culture and community you see, also my interest of the indigenous people of New Zealand.

The Hongi

Just like in the west, you may greet one by a hug or a kiss on either side of the cheeks.๐Ÿค— A cultural etiquette display by the citizens of New Zealand which originated from the Mฤori culture, and a way to welcome one is the Hongi. The Hongi is expressed by rubbing or touching of noses. ๐Ÿ’‘A common value experienced between all the cultures so far is having that common ground etiquette of politeness, respect and friendliness, being the same in New Zealand, it is a sign of respect and humility shown through such culture.

You may be thinking why would I be doing that to someone I do not know for the first time?๐Ÿ˜• Obviously, it may be uncomfortable,๐Ÿ‘€ so I am not telling to do this, but just be aware and not be surprised if you were to witness such way of greeting, at least you are knowledgeable๐Ÿ‘ enough now to know that is part of the culture. Once you are there long enough ๐Ÿ•—and have emerged yourself in the culture you may be able to greet in such way.

With all the tips๐Ÿ“ I have giving you, go and enjoy your trip to New Zealand and always keep yourself right by maintaining your polite passport.๐Ÿ’“
